Biography of Maureen Andersen


     Maureen Andersen was born in Derby, England, she moved at an early age to Plymouth, South Devon, where she developed her love of drawing and painting. Later, after attending Oxford High School she took up art seriously and went to the Slade School of Fine Art, gaining a diploma there. Her art teacher's diploma was taken at the institute of Education, London. In London Maureen taught and exhibited in many galleries including the Royal Academy in Burlington House, Whitechapel Art Gallery and Paddington Art Society.

     When Maureen arrived in Grand Cayman in 1976 she was instantly struck by the wonderful flora and vistas of the islands and has been busily painting them in oils and watercolours ever since. Maureen worked as a teacher in Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac until her retirement in 1991. Maureen has always been influenced by French Impressionists and Post-Impressionists including Bonnard, Van Gogh, Monet and Utrillo. She has a son David in Grand Cayman and a daughter Astrid in England.
